I was sixteen when my great aunt visited and began talking about our family’s history, and I found myself completely fascinated by her research - and wanting to know more. About my Tasmanian-born great-grandmother whose own mother brought her six children to San Francisco by herself following her husband’s untimely death, about my 3-times great-grandfather whose Placerville rose quartz mine collapsed on him, about the little English village my ancestors had lived in for generations before sailing for a newly-established American colony.

And I’ve been researching ever since.
